A lot of people do it, so its not weird. But it is trashy!! And shameless!!

Dont do it. If your guests want to give you money, they will. You dont need to wink and nudge them with a “tree”. It just makes you look greedy. If you receive money, you should be discreet about it. A tree is far from discreet.

If your guests want to give you a pan, then receive it gratefully. I dont care that you are moving. People move every day; thats no excuse to shamelessly display monetary gifts at your wedding.

I don’t think its tacky but you can do better in terms of decorations. If you are doing it to get more $$ from your guest, then it would be tacky and it may show in your personality. So if its for fun and decoration, by all means do it! Just be mindful people are suffering in this economy, we have 10% REPORTED unemployment. That probably translates to something like 15% to 20% people who ran out of unemployment benefits or picked up temporary positions.
