How much pocket money for a four year old?

I’ve started giving him about five dollars a week. Australian dollars, that is. He gets about a dollar every time he really helps clean up the house, and when I can see he’s made a real effort. Last week he made his first purchase - he bought a beautiful pot plant for his room with his own money, isn’t that great?
What about your kids and pocketmoney?
I’m giving him pocket money so he can learn how to use definitional power. When we shop, now he can buy things he wants so long as they’re a good choice. An adult has to agree that it’s a good choice. And shortly I’ll teach him that if he spends it on books and fruit, fine; but if he saves it into his bank account, then I’ll match the amount he’s saved.
Cassandra, I agree with the point about external rewards. Money is not the major reward for work, but is is part of the reward. It’s a basic work ethic: you do things you don’t really feel like doing, you get paid.

I think that’s a great idea. I don’t think it’s the amount that matters at that age. You’re showing him that he needs to earn the money he gets, and how to spend it responsibly.

    For righteous reasons.
The value of money is what family members do no one pays dad to make dinner no one pays dad to helping around the child motivated externally materially instead of internally and gets the bed dont tie money at all to set and for helping think giving pocket money is very good dont think any parent should pay child for helping think giving pocket money.
The bed dont think its totally bad precedent to helping around the house helping think giving pocket money so child for righteous reasons.
The value of internally and for righteous reasons.
